Spanish Show - Black Andalusian Portrait Painting

This painting was inspired by a photograph I took at an equestrian event celebrating a variety of horse breeds and riding disciplines. Among the many wonderful displays, this magnificent Andalusian horse and rider, dressed in traditional Spanish attire, immediately caught my attention.

I was particularly drawn to the elegance and harmony between horse and rider. By focusing on a closer composition, I was able to highlight the noble expression of the Andalusian, the intricate details of the Spanish regalia and the quiet partnership that exists between them.

Working in PanPastels I created rich layers of colour while retaining the soft, painterly quality that is characteristic of my work. My aim was to capture not only the beauty of this iconic breed but also the timeless tradition, grace and pageantry of classical Spanish horsemanship.
