This painting was inspired by a photograph I took of a beautiful bay pony and a grey horse peacefully grazing together in a sunlit summer meadow. It was one of those quiet, unassuming moments that perfectly captured the tranquillity of horses at ease in their natural surroundings.
The warm summer light, rolling pasture and relaxed companionship between the two horses immediately drew me to the scene. Rather than portraying movement or drama, I wanted to celebrate the simple beauty of an ordinary moment—one filled with calm, contentment and harmony.
Created using PanPastels, I built soft layers of colour to convey the warmth of the landscape and the rich textures of the horses' coats. My painterly approach allows the atmosphere of the scene to take centre stage, inviting the viewer to pause and enjoy the quiet peace of a summer's day.
