Khruga - Dapple Grey Arab

Originanl Pan Pastel Painting

This portrait of the striking grey Arabian Khruga was inspired by a photographic study taken during a commissioned photoshoot. His elegant presence, beautifully defined dappled coat and kind, intelligent expression immediately captured my attention, making him an irresistible subject for a painting.

Arabian horses possess a unique combination of refinement, spirit and sensitivity, and I wanted to convey not only Khruga's unmistakable beauty but also the quiet dignity and gentle nature that made him such a pleasure to meet. Through my painterly approach in professional PanPastels, I sought to capture the subtle play of light across his silver-grey coat, allowing his expressive eyes and noble character to become the true focus of the portrait.

This painting was selected for exhibition at the Horse in Art Exhibition at Tennants, Yorkshire, in 2023, and was later exhibited at 'We Give You The Horse', the Society of Equestrian Artists Exhibition at the National Horseracing Museum, Newmarket, in 2026.

Meeting Khruga was a genuine pleasure. He was every inch the gentleman—calm, kind and full of presence—and painting him remains one of the highlights of my work.
