I was commissioned to create this portrait of a beautiful Bichon Frisé as a special gift from a niece to her uncle. She sent me a selection of reference photographs, each capturing a different aspect of her uncle's much-loved companion's personality. It was this particular image that immediately stood out to me, beautifully conveying her gentle expression and sweet, affectionate nature.

 

Working in professional PanPastels allowed me to build soft layers of colour and texture, creating a portrait that reflected not only her likeness but also the warmth and character that made her so dearly loved. My aim was to capture the quiet charm and individuality that made her such a special companion.

The portrait was received with great delight, and it remains one of those commissions that has stayed with me. Whenever I meet her uncle, he tells me how much he treasures the painting and how it hangs proudly in his home, allowing him to think of her every day. Knowing that my artwork continues to bring such comfort and happy memories is one of the greatest rewards of being an artist.
