Farrier Life - Farrier Painting
Pan Pastel Painting
This original PanPastel painting captures the skill, concentration and quiet partnership between horse and farrier. Inspired by the work of master farrier Sam Marlow, the portrait celebrates a profession that has been at the heart of horsemanship for centuries, combining traditional craftsmanship with a deep understanding of the horse.
As Sam carefully shoes the horse, I wanted to portray not only the physical strength required for the task but also the patience, precision and trust that exist between horse and farrier. The close composition draws the viewer into the moment, while the loose, painterly application of PanPastels allows the textures of leather, steel and the horse's coat to emerge with warmth and atmosphere.
This painting was selected for exhibition at the Horse in Art Exhibition at Tennants, Yorkshire, in 2023, and was later exhibited at 'We Give You The Horse', the Society of Equestrian Artists Exhibition at the National Horseracing Museum, Newmarket, in 2026.
A celebration of traditional equestrian craftsmanship, this painting will appeal to horse lovers, collectors of equestrian art and anyone who appreciates the dedication and artistry behind the farrier's craft.
