I was commissioned to create this portrait of two beautiful Black Cocker Spaniels from a photograph provided by their owner. As soon as I saw the image, I could understand why it was such a favourite. Their expressive faces and alert expressions perfectly reflected the lively personalities their owner described.
I was told they were both wonderfully cheeky, affectionate and full of character, and it was a pleasure to capture their individual personalities while also celebrating the special bond they shared.
I loved working in Pan Pastels for this portrait as it allows me to build rich layers of colour and subtle highlights, bringing depth and warmth to their glossy black coats while retaining the soft, painterly quality that is characteristic of my work.
My aim was to create more than a faithful likeness—to produce a portrait that would preserve the spirit and charm of these much-loved companions for years to come.
