Dylan - Jack Russell Painting

Original Pan Pastel Painting

I was commissioned to create this portrait of a delightful Jack Russell, and my client provided a selection of reference photographs from which to work. Among them, one image immediately stood out. It perfectly captured his alert expression, lively personality and the unmistakable cheekiness that makes the breed so endearing.

Working in professional PanPastels, I focused on portraying not only his distinctive features but also the energy, intelligence and warmth that shone through in the photograph. My aim was to create a portrait that reflected his unique character as faithfully as his appearance.

When my client came to collect the finished portrait, his reaction was one I'll always remember. He was deeply moved on seeing the painting for the first time, and moments like these are among the greatest rewards of my work. Knowing that a portrait has captured the essence of a much-loved companion and created such a heartfelt response is why I love creating commissioned artwork.
