Wild Windswept Shore

I was drawn to the sense of freedom and movement in this beautiful dapple grey Iberian horse, captured cantering along a windswept beach on a rainy, wild, blustery day.

 

Viewed from behind, his flowing mane and tail are caught by the strong wind, creating a wonderful feeling of energy and movement.

The muted light and overcast sky give the scene an atmospheric, almost untamed quality, while the distant foliage and rocks add to the feeling of a rugged coastal landscape.

 

I particularly enjoyed capturing the subtle dapples and changing tones across his grey coat, contrasting with the darker, windswept background.

Painted in Pan Pastels, I have taken a loose, painterly approach to convey the movement of the horse and the wild atmosphere of the day.
