Welsh Winner - Welsh Show Horse 

This striking Welsh horse caught my eye while competing at a local show, where he went on to win his class. His presence, quality and expressive movement immediately made him a wonderful subject for a painting.

Rather than reproducing the entire scene, I chose to focus on his head and neck, creating a composition that emphasises both his elegance and athleticism. Cropping the image in this way allowed me to draw attention to his alert expression, flowing mane and the natural rhythm of his movement.

I worked in soft layers of colour while preserving a painterly quality, capturing the light across his coat and conveying the energy and vitality of the moment. My aim was not simply to paint a winning horse, but to celebrate the grace, presence and character that made him such a memorable subject.
